While you can add items to the favorites folder in Finder with Cmd-Shift-T, there’s no easy way to get to it, or, any indication of where it is. To start off, the favorites folder is at (Your_Home_Folder)/Library/Favorites/. Now, you can add aliases to that folder by simply selecting a file/folder and hitting Cmd-Shift-T.
With this in mind, you could add the favorites folder to the dock, or, to the sidebar.
“When Steve first demonstrated Quick Look, I though it looked gimmicky. Interesting, for sure, but nothing I’d use regularly. Much like Star Wars Episode I: Fun when viewed for the first time, but I’ll never watch it again.” TUAW has a good round up of how to use Quick Look to its full extent
I received a question from a reader today asking me how to set up a distribution list like he had on his Windows machine with Outlook. My response to his was this:
Make sure that you have an Address card in Address Book for each of the people you want on the list.
Create a New Group by selecting the “+” button under the Group area.
Name the Group like you did in Outlook.
From your Address Book entries Drag and Drop the names of the people you want in the Group to the group name.
Now open up Mail and in the “TO:” Field type the name of the Group you created.
Even though OS X can see the .zip flies natively Spotlight will not search for them. If you really want Spotlight to show the .zip files in the results then all you need to do is download and install this Spotlight Plug-in form Bartas Technologies. The best part of the plug-in is that it is FREE!!
After testing out Plaxo and a few other iCal Syncing tools I have a few extra iCal events in my Calendar. I really did not want to sit and delete all the duplicates. I stumbled across this utility that takes care of it for me. John Maisey had written an apple script that looks through the ical and gets rid of the Duplicates. He has mad both a Leopard and a Tiger Version. Check out his site for the download.
If you edit video and want precise edit, the only way of doing that is with a specific frame. Seconds are not precise enough because there are 24 to 30 frames per second. It is possible to have QuickTime display frame information instead of minutes and seconds. To do that, click on the time at the left of the timebar and choose “Frame number”. You can easily switch back to Standard at anytime.
