iweb.jpgA few weeks a go my wife and I  had our second daughter and wanted to make an iWeb site. Many of you checked it out at ChandlerSC.com. My problem was that I did not want to use any of the built in themes from the fine folks at apple. I searched for just a bit and was pointed to a site 11Mystics. The site Has over 20 “Pay For Templates” and about 5 free ones. I used the free templates named “Baby Pink” . The ”Pay For Templates” are very reasonably price for around the 12.00 price point for most. Some are a bit higher but they have a lot of customization in the iWeb area. They are easy to install on your system and the author gives free updates to the purchased themes for life. She also has a site that outlines how to make your own iWeb theme. This is not easy and if you go down the road of making your own theme please back up your system first!!!!The author has also just released her first Rapid Weaver theme it is priced a bit higher than the iweb stuff but it is worth it. Get Tabouli, the fresh new theme for RapidWeaver from 11Mystics.com!

UPDATE: Check out the next article on iWeb I put up. Its an in-depth look on how to use it for a photo sharing site. Use iWeb To Share Your Family Photos

Apple Jack Helps Repair Permissions and So Much More!

AppleJack applejack.png

In My previous post about repairing permissions I explained how to do this from inside the Os using Disk Utility. There is a command line user interface for Mac OS X that provides a simplified interface for single user mode system repairs. It is called AppleJack. YOU MUST RUN IT IN SINGLE USER MODE. To Get to Single User Mode you have to restart the computer and Hit the Command and “S” key at the same time prior to the Start up sound and the Apple appears on the screen. Below you will find excerpts from the AppleJack website about their application.

Is Your Mac Running Slow? Try to Repair Permissions

OS X provided Mac users with a new modern operating system with the old foundation of UNIX. One of the benefits of UNIX is it’s multi-user capablity. To manage the users of the system, UNIX uses file ownership and permissions. Ownership and permissions is a large subject unto itself, so we will not address the details here. Look for a tutorial in the future or go to osxfaq.com for additional reading.

Occasionally in OS X some key file ownership and permissions get changed for whatever reason by applications and more frequently, program installers. When ownership and permissions get changed, things just don’t work as they should. The symptoms might be programs quitting unexpectedly, preferences not being remembered, programs not launching, etc. This is where Repair Disk Permissions utility comes in. This utility, which is part of the Apple Disk Utility program, corrects the ownership and permissions according to Apple specifications. Frequently, this corrects many system and program errors. Repair Disk Permissions is a OS X specific utility and UNIX does not have such issues. Hopefully, this a concern and procedure that will go away in the future. For A step by step tutorial read below
