Usernames and passwords from the Keychain in Safari!

What absolutely made me switch from Safari to Camino at first is that it remembered usernames and passwords. The usernames and passwords are actually stored in the application Keychain. It looked at first as though it is not possible in Safari. It is actually entirely possible and the only thing is that it needs to be enabled. To enable it:

Keynote ‘08 Picture Frames hack

I found this nice Hack over at Tuaw.com And thought anyone getting the new iWork Suite would like to see it.

“Brian sent us (thanks!) what is probably the very first Keynote ‘08 hack. He found that there’s a new stroke option in the program called Picture Frames, which are various types of framing graphics to put around a slide. The standard choice screen lets you choose from 12, but Brian opened up the Keynote files, and found that there were actually 72– apparently Apple included Frames for its own Themes, but didn’t allow the user to use them separately.

Fortunately, all it takes to show the extra frames is their names in an xml (actually a .plist) file inside the Keynote .app folder, so Brian cracked it open, and added all the names. Turns out, also, that no matter how much you stretch it, the Picture Frames choose can only show 50 at a time, so Brian even created a customized .plist file that shows his 50 favorites– all you have to do is download it from him, put it inside your Keynote .app file, restart Keynote, and you’ve got access to almost all the Picture Frames that Apple does.

It’s pretty clear why Apple didn’t want people playing around with custom frames too much (opening a Keynote file with a custom frame requires that you have it installed, apparently, so sending a Keynote file to your friend without the custom frame could lead to trouble), but who knows why they didn’t at least give you the option of using all the frames everyone has. Thanks to Brian’s superfast hack, now you can.” - From TUAW

.Mac Worth the $99 now?

  • There are 0 Comments

As many of you know I have been a long time .Mac hater. Well today may have just changed my mind. With all the new features that .Mac is now giving us,10 GB storage to start with, it may just be worth the $99.00 a year, 8.25 a month. I realize that godaddy.com hosting is more like 3.99 a month, if you buy a year at one time there is a discount, and you get 100 gig storage and a whole host of other features. But for 8.25 a month you get you an @.mac e-mail address, the new web gallery(which i am very much looking foward to playing with), 10 gig storage, and when leapord ships the Movable mac stuff that was explained in the last Jobs Keynote. The other really nice feature is that it will work better with the new iWeb in ilife ‘08. I am not sure if it is worth the money right now but I am sure going to get my moneys worth in the next few weeks when I get my new iLife and iWork applications in the mail. Keep your eyes on the feed and watch for all the stuff .Mac may have to offer.

ALERT - From 11mystics.com about iWeb ‘08

  • There are 0 Comments
  • and it is filed under: iWeb

Many of you know i really like the iWeb templates that 11mystics has put together. Just after the Jobs Keynote was over today i received an e-mail from 11mystics telling me to hold off on the iWeb ‘08 application because the templates they offer will not work yet. See the e-mail below.

“This is Suzanne from 11mystics.com. You are receiving this note because you have purchased one or more iWeb templates from me in the past. Today Apple released iLife 08 which means that a new version of iWeb has been released as well.

This new version of iWeb has rendered all third-party templates unusable,at least for the moment. The entire theme architecture has changed whichmeans that all third-party templates will NOT work unless we find a way to convert them.

For the time being, please follow these important steps to ensure you can continue to edit your existing site with any template you’ve purchased from me:

1. Make a copy of your current iWeb application and save it to another place on your hard drive. You can still use iWeb 1.1.2 from this new location.

2. Make a back-up copy of your site file. This file is named domain.sites or if you do not show file extensions, it will read simply as “domain”. This file is found at this location:

~user/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites

3. Save a copy of that file to a safe place in case you accidentally convert it to 2.0 format.

Once you have saved copies of both iWeb 1.1.2 and your domain.sites file, you can safely install iWeb 2.0 and play with it.

Since iWeb 1.1.2 and iWeb 2.0 both use the domain.sites file to store your site, you’ll have to be careful now. You should create a NEW domain file if you want to play with iWeb 2.0. Do NOT open your master site with iWeb 2.0 because it will require an update that will render it useless in 1.1.2.

iWeb 2.0 will ask you to open an existing domain file or create a new one. Just create a new one but do not store it in the same folder as your old one - that will just overwrite your old one and now you have a big problem :)
Good luck and remember, back-up your stuff. That way you can always undo any mess you create. Please follow my blog for updates on the template situation. Since the changes are significant, this will take a while to figure out, if it’s even possible.

Cheers,
Suzanne”

I will keep you informed if I hear any thing Else

Quick Find For Apple Mail Replies!

I found this really quick tip over at The MacTipper Blog Today.

“Sometimes, you’ll reply to an email and you’ll need to see the reply that you wrote. Well, rather than going to your sent folder and digging it up. You can merely click on the little arrow to the left of your original email. That’s handy!”

Time for Hard Drive Manufacturers to Cut the GB BS

If a car company were to put up a big sign advertising their new mini van had 100 cubic feet of cargo space, but it actually had about 75, do you think you would have the right to complain? Then why is it we all just accept the misleading way hard drive manufacturers advertise the amount of space on their drives?
