Oslo, Norway - The popular software tracking website, iusethis, has expanded its reach to iPhone users today. Members can now submit, browse and vote up iPhone applications.
iusethis has been serving the Macintosh community for over two years, and has planted its flag as the most innovative and community-centered software tracking site on the web. The website allows software users to mark applications they use, contributing to the application’s “iusethis” score, similar to social news site digg.
The website’s founders have been firm believers and fans of the iPhone, and were toying with the idea of an iPhone app section, even before the App Store was announced. Read the rest of this entry »
In order to have MobileMe (me.com) host multiple domains you will need to have a basic understanding of how to use domain forwarding. I want to let everyone know upfront that this process may or may not be supported by apple, but it works very well.
For my example I will be using my domain registrar GoDaddy.com, your register may differ bit in the process but for the most part it will be the same.
For this walkthrough I am going to assume that you have not started anything. The first thing you will want to do is register your domains. As I have stated, I use Godaddy.com. If you want to use Go Daddy I would suggest using a coupon code, either GB3 or Todd. These codes don’t help me but they do help podcasters I like to listen to. One you have your domains registered you are ready to get started designing your sites in iWeb. For this example, I am going to use 2 domains I have had for awhile but have never used, Mac101.info and Mac101.org.

The nice folks over at Shades sent us a box of assorted cases for all of the current generation iPods and the First Generation iPhone. I have put them on my iPhone and my parents’ iPod Nanos. I also had my very picky brother put one on his iPhone to see what he thought.
Right out of the box I was glad to see that the makers of Shades did not ship me the case with a bunch of hard to open packaging. This is very important to me because when I get something and have a hard time getting it open it just frustrates me. The case is a bit hard to describe but I am going to give it my best shot. Without the iPhone in the case it looks like a clear flexible plastic wrapper (unless you buy one of the many color choices they offer). There are small cut outs where the earphone jack, camera, and vibrate switch are. The case has an opening at the bottom that you use to slide the iPhone in and out of. I want to make sure I mention that this case covers the screen and allows your finger touch to go right through. See my pictures to get a better understanding on how it looks.

I have been searching for a way to make my google hosted e-mail to “push” via MobileME. I found this tip on Mac OSX Hints Page.
You can set up MobileMe to use any email address as a ‘push’ email on the iPhone. The first thing you need to do is set your non-MobileMe (.Mac) email address for auto-forward to your MobileMe (.Mac) account. When you create the email account, make sure you set it up as Other (not as a .Mac or MobileMe account.) Then select IMAP as the type of account. Enter the name and auto-forwarded email address. (This is the email address that will show as the “From” email, even though you’re using your MobileMe account.) For your mail server settings, use your MobileMe settings: * Incoming settings: o Host Name: mail.mac.com o User Name: MobileMe user name o Password: MobileMe password * Outgoing Settings: o Host Name: smtp.mac.com o User Name: MobileMe user name o Password: MobileMe password * Advanced: o Use SSL - On o Authentication - Password o Server Port - 587 Now you’re able to receive ‘push’ email from your non-MobileMe account, and reply without using the @me.com address. (You can use those same settings in the Mail App as well.)
I will be trying it as soon as I can access MobileMe and get it all set up.
UPDATE: According to some of the comments here and on the Mac OSX Hints Page this may not work as eaisly as thought. You can give this a shot but it may or may not work for you.

If you are planning on upgrading from an iPhone 1.0 to the new iPhone 3G and have no clue what to do with your old iPhone AT&T has offered this tidbit that may help you to decide.
From Appleinsider
A spokesperson for the carrier confirmed to AppleInsider that neither AT&T nor Apple will prevent de-activated first-generation iPhones for serving as surrogate iPod touches.”If the [original] device is not re-activated as a wireless phone after you’ve upgraded to iPhone 3G, it will still work as an iTunes player and can access Wi-Fi,” the spokesperson said. That means old iPhones can still surf the web, check email, and browse the mobile iTunes store when connected to WiFi, and otherwise function as widescreen video iPod with calendar and photo functions. It’s recommended that owners who take this approach upgrade their original iPhones with iPhone Software v2.0 on July 11th prior to de-activating the devices, as it’s unclear whether upgrades to non-active handsets will be possible.
If you are planning on upgrading to the new iPhone 3G let us know why in the comments and tell us what you are doing with your first gen iPhone.
I really enjoy the availability of “Active Corners” . Active Corners is the ability to use each corner of the screen to perform and action. You can control the settings for Active Corners in System Preferences -> Expose and Spaces on the Expose tab. (as seen in the picture below) You can ask any of the 4 corners of the display to launch any of the following.
- All Windows
- Application Windows
- Desktop
- Dashboard
- Start Screen Saver
- Disable Screen Saver
- Sleep Display

A week or 2 ago I went to the At&t Store in Greenville to complain about the lousy coverage I have gotten on my iPhone and my wife’s blackberry. The AT&T rep stated that I should be resetting the phone at least once a week if not every day. I asked why and she went into the dissertation she received via e-mail a few month ago and I lost interest very quickly. The gist of it was so the phone will get the most up to date information and make sure that the phone is using the right tower for its signal. So I agreed and reset my iPhone on the spot. I really did not expect it to make any difference but it did. My only problem is the time it takes to reset the iPhone. Then I had an idea, what if I just put the phone on Airplane mode for a second? That would make it drop and regain its signal. IT WORKED!!!
Getting the iPhone into airplane mode is very simple just go the settings button and move the very top sider to turn “ON” Airplane Mode, wait a second or two and the slide it back to off.
