Open Links From Mail in The Background

Mail.appIf you get e-mails that has several links embeded in them you can open the links in the background of the default web browser (Firefox for me). The process is the same as opening a new tab in Safari. Just command + click on the link and it will open a new tab in the web browser and not bring the web browser to the front. Give this a shot next time you are trying to get through your e-mails and don’t want to be distracted by the you tube video your sister sent you a link to.

Not sure if I am doing something wrong, but this does not work for me. It switches to the newly opened tab in the browser.

Using Control+click or right mouse click bring up a menu where you can select “open link behind mail”. (not what I was looking for).

Using Apple Mail and Firefox – brand new iMac.

Doesn’t work with Thunderbird – Safari, either. This was a checkbox in GyazMail, and it is also enabled in the preferences of Tweetie for Mac. I wish someone would decipher the mystery for other apps.
