To generate a unique ID, open Terminal.app and at the prompt type uuidgen. It gives a Unique ID you can use for your new template. Hope this helps

in the content.html file I want to add a customized signature. I don't want the image to show as an attachment but a part of the template itself. When I add the image and open in mail, it says missing plugin. I've use jpg, png, and psd. Any solutions as to which plugin is needed?

Thanks for updating this post! I'm in the process of creating my own mail stationery and this has been helpful. I found NewMacUser.com from a Google search looking for tips to make my own mail.app stationery. I think I'll have to bookmark the site, looks like there's lots of good stuff here!

You can save simple versions of custom stationery directly from Mail.app. I think that when you do this it most likely creates a StationeryID for your custom creation, but I haven't confirmed this.

Check out the Apple Pro Tip on this:

Dave thanks for letting me know that the link is dead. I have taken the time to go get the text from the Internet Archive Wayback Machine to try and make this post more complete.
