This new one-touch jailbreak opens your iPhone for full disk access and installs Installer.app so you can add pretty much any third party application you like. One way to sync Address Book smart groups to iPods etc.

For all of you who use your iPods to get you address book contacts here is a way to get the smart groups on them.I got my iPod touch last week, and I realized that, even if it can sync my contacts and groups correctly from Address Book, it cannot sync smart groups…. Then use this script:tell application “Address Book” repeat with the_person in every person in group “SMyGroup” add the_person to group “SMyGroup” end repeat save addressbook quitend tellRepeat those steps for each smart group to be put into a standard group, and in the AppleScript, just add more repeat loops. Execute it in AppleScript Editor, and your smart and standard groups will be identical, and will sync correctly to your iPhone or touch. As a bonus hint, you can automate this in Automator.

Use Gmail with any IMAP client, including the iPhone

On the iPhone, set the Incoming Mail server to the IMAP account in step one above [hostname: mail.mac.com; user name: jshmoe; password: whatever it is]9. On the iPhone, set the Outgoing server to the Gmail account in step two [hostname: smtp.gmail.com:587; user name: jshmoe@gmail.com; password: whatever it is]Please note, the iPhone by default will use secure SSL encrypted ports if they are available, which is always a good idea. What do you get after all this nonsense:1…. better to do that from the Gmail web interface.Variation 1:If you are happy with having jshmoe@gmail.com as your email address, skip steps three and five, and then in step seven, set your email to jshmoe@gmail.com.Variation 2:If you have hosted email with google with user@DOMAIN.TLD as your email address, skip steps three and five, then in step seven, set your email to user@DOMAIN.TLD and in step nine, you use user name as username@DOMAIN.TLD.

Email address entry timesaver for the iPhone

I don’t yet have one and am still not sure if I will get one but this tips looks pretty cool. I’m often frustrated by the fact that the “.com” key exists for entering URLs, but not when entering an email address in a form on web pages. Now instead of pressing the “.?123” key to get the period (.), I just hit the space bar twice followed by the delete key, then type com. I know it’s the same number of taps, but this technique is certainly faster.
