Building a Simple Website Using iWeb

It’s even easier if you have a .Mac account, because with one, you can publish your website to the Internet with the click of a button…. In this article, you’ll see how to build your website using iWeb, and various ways to publish it.The basic idea with iWeb is that you start with Apple designed templates (which are first rate) and modify them to your taste and needs…. If you want a custom look and structure, you can do it, but you are not playing to iWeb’s strengths and may meet some frustration with the limits of the program. One benefit is that you can do it all by not knowing any HTML, but you should know because of the way Apple hides the complexity of websites in iWeb, the sites you create won’t easily translate to other HTML editing software down the line if you graduate from iWeb.

iWeb with Godaddy Domain

If you have not done so already you will need to place your personal domain information into iWeb(this is done in iWebs File > Set Up Personal Domain)…. Head to GoDaddy.com and log in.Click on my domain names.Click the link for your domain.Click on Total DNS Control and MX RecordsClick on the little pencil to the right of your “www” cname.Change “@” to “web.mac.com”Click OK.When you have finished this anyone who types www.yourdomain.com they will get what you have hosted at you .Mac account.if you want to make it so your users can skip the www part and just type yourdomain.com onto the address bar do these steps as well. Navigate to “Total DNS Control and MX Records”Make sure that you are on the forwarding tab of the Menu.Select enable and type in your entire domain name that is being forwarded, in this case it would be http://www.yourdomainname.com.Wait an hour (Godaddy says it can take an hour or so for the servers to make all the changes)There are a few other sites that are showing you how to do this but they are not using any of the e-mail or other products GoDaddy offers.

Keynote ’08 Picture Frames hack

What is probably the very first Keynote ’08 hack. He found that there’s a new stroke option in the program called Picture Frames, which are various types of framing graphics to put around a slide. The standard choice screen lets you choose from 12, but Brian opened up the Keynote files, and found that there were actually 72– apparently Apple included Frames for its own Themes, but didn’t allow the user to use them separately.

Publishing websites without .Mac!

As a follow up to the .Mac ical replacement we postedIi found this again at the A New Mac Tip Every Day Weblog. This one is not as easy but it is also a good way to beat the 79.99 of .Mac (if you buy it from Amazon.com) This does not really replace what .Mac gives you in the way of the cool little buttons like the site counter and e-mail. But who really needs that? And is …
