10 Keyboard Shortcuts to Help Speed Through Mail

Get New Mail: Cmd-Shift-N

If you're waiting for a message, this can be really handy. Cmd-Tab to Mail, hit Cmd-Shift-N, then Cmd-Tab back to your previous app.

Reply: Cmd-R and Forward: Cmd-Shift-F

These pretty much go together. Cmd-R will reply to your message and Cmd-Shift-F will forward your message. Always handy if you have a lot of messages to reply to.

Mark as Junk Mail: Cmd-Shift-J

No matter how hard you try, you will probably never be completely free of Junk mail. However, if you mark a junk message as such, then Mail will eventually learn what you want and what you don't want.

Increase Frequency of Mac to MobilMe/iPhone Sync

Feeling conned by the promised "push" technology of MobileMe, specifically when making changes on your Mac, only to find out that it will not push, but instead, sync at 15-minute (60 minutes in 10.4.11) intervals? I found the .plist file that controls the "Automatic" sync interval for MobileMe, and changed it from 15 minutes to 1 minute. The file is located in ~/Library » Preferences » ByHost » com.apple.DotMacSync.your_MAC_address.plist.

Open this file in Property List Editor, find the AutoSyncInterval key, and then set it to the number of minutes after which you want it to sync with [...]

Search iPhone (2.0) contacts by first and last name

On the new iPhone software, you can search for a contact using the first and last name. For instance, if you want to search for a contact, say Bob Smith , you would type B S (that's B, then a space, then S) in the search field. The iPhone will filter out all the contacts with first and last name starting with B and S. You can further refine the search by typing more letters. This is a great time-saving feature; thanks, Apple! (more…)

Create A Permanent Sidebar Entry For Networked Folders

I found a really nice tip for those of you who connect to a lot of removable devices and what them to stay in the Finder side Bar.

If you're anything like me, then you probably access files within folders within folders on removable media (i.e. external hard drives, Flash drives). It can become quite a hassle (with a trackpad, anyway) to open the the media device, select the folder, navigate, select another folder, navigate, and then select the desired file or folder.

I tried adding my commonly-accessed (but time consuming to reach) external hard drive folder to the Finder's sidebar, but [...]

Use MobileMe (.Mac) To Host Multiple iWeb Sites

In order to have MobileMe (me.com) host multiple domains you will need to have a basic understanding of how to use domain forwarding. I want to let everyone know upfront that this process may or may not be supported by apple, but it works very well.

For my example I will be using my domain registrar GoDaddy.com, your register may differ bit in the process but for the most part it will be the same.

For this walkthrough I am going to assume that you have not started anything. The first thing you will want to do is register your domains. As I have stated, I use Godaddy.com. If you want to [...]

A Better Way to Use Active Corners

I really enjoy the availability of "Active Corners" . Active Corners is the ability to use each corner of the screen to perform and action. You can control the settings for Active Corners in System Preferences -> Expose and Spaces on the Expose tab. (as seen in the picture below) You can ask any of the 4 corners of the display to launch any of the following.

  • All Windows
  • Application Windows
  • Desktop
  • Dashboard
  • Start Screen Saver
  • Disable Screen Saver
  • Sleep Display
