Apple TV now the lowest cost streaming device with Exclusive HBO Now!

With Apple announcing today that the  TV will be $69.00 they are the most cost effective streaming service out there. Along with the price drop they also announced their partnership with HBO Now. HBO Now will cost you $14.99 a month for their entire library of original shows and also its large catalog of feature films. Apple has the exclusive rights for the HBO Now content as far as streaming boxes are concerned. You will be able to access the service from a web browser.

For those of us who are cord cutters this is the first real step in al a carte TV services since the launch of the streaming boxes themselves. I hope that ESPN joins HBO soon with a stand alone channel all their own. For me the only real missing item is live sports and sports content. If ESPN can make their Watch ESPN service stand alone like HBO then the cable and satellite providers are in serious trouble.

On a side note if you are a cable cutter and looking for a top notch antenna then you should take a look at the Leaf. It is near the top of the line for indoor antennas.

I would have liked to see Apple spend a little more time on the interface and software of the TV, but hopefully they will do that in the next release of the hardware.
